The recent release of Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier was made Editor’s Choice for The Gramophone ’ s February, 2010 publication, and reviewed as “ Woodward’s wonderful Bach ….is among the most outstanding performances”. German critics described this release as setting a new standard after Gould and Barenboim. He was awarded the prestigious Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik for his Celestial Harmonies recording of Bach C-minor and E-minor Partitas and was also a previous recipient of the Goethe Prize and Diapaison d’or by German and French critics for recordings of works dedicated to him by Morton Feldman. Current recordings for Celestial Harmonies of the Chopin Nocturnes, F-minor Concerto and Debussy Préludes, were released to reviews that described Roger Woodward’s performances as eclipsing those of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. He performs with Claudio Abbado (DGG, live from the Wienerkonzerthaus), Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur and is currently performing Bach’s and Shostakovich’s Preludes and Fugues and the Beethoven Sonatas.
